One third-party vendor claimed to me that the SandPiper SIMMs use 80
ns memory (presumably, they could use faster, but it wouldn't do one any
good), so I guess the Alpha must be doing some heavy-duty pipelining. I
guess the alternative was having memory no one could afford (the
traditional DEC solution?).
The $6400 price for 32 Mbyte of memory was way over what I was
quoted (by a factor of something like 2+). Your mileage may vary....
