This is a collection from several postings in this stream. |> |>Nonetheless it's too expensive... 70ns 1Mb chips are selling for less |>than $2.50 per in volume... that works out to less than $25 for a |>9-chip SIMM. If your manufacturing cost is as high as $10/SIMM, |>that's still nearly a 300% markup. The only option with the 1Mbit chips is the 16MB option (which has 8 2MByte SIMMS in it) The rest use 4Mbit memory technology. |> |>For the more popular personal computers you can get a 4MB SIMM at 70ns |>for less than $125. And don't tell me that it's lower quality... Of course those memory SIMMs aren't ECC now are they? > What astonishes me is that (1) only "a future version of the >operating system" will support more than 128 Mbyte/256 Mbyte on the >400s/500s The "future version of the OS" isn't what was said. What was said is that we'll support those in the future. That "future" depends heavily on the availability and price of 16Mbit chip technology. Right now, they're more than 4* the price of 4Mbit chips, thus we're not convinced people would consider paying for those. -- William M.
