>dec just sent mail out on their dec-managers mail alias asking if in >the next osf/1 release for alpha, should the most recent osf/motif 1.2 >release be included. > >is this a no brain'r or what? It's a total no brainer, and I'd guess it probably is a reflection of some internal struggle within Digital that they're asking. Someone, somewhere, probably wanted to cut costs/resources by not bothering with the most recent version of motif, so the usual waffling and struggle will occur. DEC has to get out of its habit of making its dirty laundry visible to its customers. It doesn't make the customer base feel "empowered" when they see clear signs that the vendor doesn't know what to do and is trying to get customer input as ammunition to resolve internal struggles. For example - whatever happened to Gail Grant's "poll" about making patches available on the internet? Gail asked for the net's opinion (and it was overwhelming) but didn't promise anything'd come of it. That sounds like a "give me ammunition" request if I ever heard one. It's vaguely pathetic to see a vendor so out of touch with their target market that they even need to ask these kinds of things. mjr.
