DEC documentation prices

According to the Fall/Winter 1989 DEC Software Documentation Products Catalog,
the list price of the Ultrix v3.1 documentation kit is $1524. However the
total price of the 40+ manuals in the kit comes to just $713 if purchased
separately. Granted there are a few manuals in the kit that are marked as
"only available within the doc. kit", but a difference of $811 seems a bit
steep. I thought I was supposed to get a discount by ordering the package
deal. What's going on here?
