I am looking for information from sites using DEC's DECathena product.

   1. Why did you get DECathena (what needs was it to fulfill)?
   2. How many workstations do you have?
   2. Did it meet your needs?
   3. What do you like about it?
   4. What don't you like about it?

A follow-up suggested that posting would be appreciated. Well, I've
nothing to hide, so:

1. To investigate whether it would be an appropriate way of managing
systems at Oxford University, we set up a small piolt project just over
a year ago.

2. 2 servers and 8 clients, all DEC 5000 series. We have experimented
with other clients.

2. 8-) Yes, by and large, it has enabled us to learn much more about
the DECathena way of doing things. The pilot may, or may not, be taken
further.

3. Kerberos is wonderful. Track/update is wonderful. Moira is fine,
but then we don't have to bulk load the database.

4. OLC & Discuss are very poor. Much of DECathena is very orientated
to MIT. The documentation is very poor. Start-up time on MIPS clients
is excessive. US restrictions on export of DES is / has been a hassle.
