I too have sent a reply to the original poster by email.

We don't use OLC partly because it was rejected by the applications support and helpline staff as being difficult to use (they are, after all, the guys who actually must teach the users and respond to their questions), but mainly because it's no good to the PC community, especially when the only member of Computer Centre staff who uses a DECathena workstation day to day is me. Everyone else has a PC or dumb terminal. At Cranfield, our "main" service (certainly in terms of numbers) is effectively now a netw
ork of PCs served by a VMS cluster via DECNET.

As to batch jobs, I have just added Kerberos authentication to DQS, and it works fine. We use AFS, which gets round the ticket passing problems of vanilla Kerberos IV. I have sent the Kerberos patches to scri.fsu.edu, so they may be available in DQS v3.0. Anyone brave enough to try the initial version of the patches, please email me.

Moira does not need enhancement. It needs a respectful funeral, and replacement with something that is designed from the start to be flexible and easily configurable without hacking source. There are too many things that it does which are not needed, does inefficiently, or should do and doesn't. I heard Matyn Calsyn talking about iastate's Moira development at AFSUG Spring '92 in Pittsburgh, and would be very interested to know what development has occurred since then.
