I am trying to attach an Apple Laser-Writer IIg to one of the output serial ports of my DecStation 5000/200 running Ultrix 4.1. The port is device /dev/tty01. Does anyone out there do this? If so can you tell me how to set the entries in the /etc/printcap and /etc/ttys files. Currently I have : lw2g|lp1|LaserWriter IIg in room 118:\ :br#9600:\ :lf=/usr/adm/lpd-errs:\ :lp=/dev/tty01:\ :sd=/usr/spool/lpd: in the printcap file, and: tty01 "/etc/getty std.9600" vt100 on nomodem # laser printer RS232 in the ttys file. I tried substituting a terminal on the end of the RS232 line and could write fine to the terminal screen, with both the "lpr -Plp1 filename" and the "cat filename > /dev/tty01" commands, provided I had the ttys entry "on" and was logged in (entry after the word VT100). This indicates that at least the port is functioning OK. With the ttys entry set to "off" it was also OK except that Carriage returns did not automatically start new lines. However when I put the serial line back onto the printer it does not print. I did all this using a trial postscript file of mine. To the terminal of only the text of the file is written, but to the Apple I expected it to translate it. Regards, S.Tonse.
