hello,
This is what my new system going to have:
#9 Revolution3D AGP video card
AVerMedia TV-Phone
Plextor 20x CD ROM
USR Courier 56.6
AWE64 Gold
Quantun AtlasII SCSI 9.1GB
64MB SDRAM
Adaptec 2940UW SCSI
This computer going to be a home use only. Since, I don't think I will
upgrade my comp in a number of years so I would to get a processor
with
500MHz or something like that e.g Alpha... Any suggestions on which
processor, motherboard etc. I should get?
please reply via e-mail as well at...

thank you

You can indeed buy systems with a 500Mhz (or faster) Alpha processor.

Impossible. Since there are no 100mhz bus boards out yet, how could you get to 500mhz? If you want to spend a lot of money, get a slot 0 board that supports the 300mhz Pentium II: Cyrix is currently battling for the ability to use the slot 0 too for their next generation chip, so there may be an upgrade path for awhile. It's the fastest intel-compatible chip out currently. For my money, my next board is going to be an up to 83mhz socket 7 board with a AMD K6-233. This way I can later on (say, 9 months to a year) sell the board and the chip and only lose, maybe a hundred bucks. Good luck, ...Rodney mmkc@ace-net.com.au wrote: : hello, : This is what my new system going to have: : #9 Revolution3D AGP video card : AVerMedia TV-Phone : Plextor 20x CD ROM : USR Courier 56.6 : AWE64 Gold : Quantun AtlasII SCSI 9.1GB : 64MB SDRAM : Adaptec 2940UW SCSI : This computer going to be a home use only. There are 533mhz Alpha's readily availible as we speak that run Windows NT.. Though I dunno if it would be great to buy (unless you have a specific purpose).. i.e. it's not going to be great for games or anything..

Somebody get me a Alpha that will work with all the hard ware he has
outlined. ;-)
For my money it would be P2 but with Intel on the horison of new slot
designes, I can see the first generation P2's becoming like the 60/66 P5's.
You can go so far but its never enough. (233 - 300 Is'nt allot of upgrade
potential.)
What I here of the specks for Slot 2 it will go well beyond 500Mhz (300 -
500Mhz, Now thats starting to sound like upgrade potentil).
Just to contredict all I have just said the Alpha I routinly use eats NT for
breakfast and UNIX for lunch, It's DAMM FAST by x86 standards.

John

I did read it carefully. He had a large listing of PC based PCI boards, and I don't know anyone who has an Alpha running with that hardware (much less finding drivers) - so I discounted the alpha comment. ...Rodney John Hascall (john@iastate.edu) wrote: : Rodney Reid <rreid@earth.execpc.com> wrote: : }Impossible. There are a number of vendors using this or other boards and shipping Alpha based systems at prices comparable to high end PC's, with approaching twice the performance... Since the company has already announced 625Mhz chips, it seems reasonable to expect that faster chips will appear in the PC space before too long. Of course, WHEN is a totally 'nuther story... Slot 2 here we come. According to Intel Slot 1 and 2 will coexist together, which I find hard to believe. Slot 2 will be soooo much cooler then the Slot 1 architexture and would appear to have such major performance advantages it would be foolish to go another way (once it's not too $$$ like it will be for the first few months.. <g>). -bill

Hi bud, Have you checked the prices on Alpha CPU's and main boards ? Or do you have $$$ falling out of mouth - or are you just rambling! If you are not you might be better off getting DEC system ! FYI While you are at it why not getting 10.000 rpm's drives with a 14+mb/s transfer instead of the slower Atlas II ?! You may even want to check out the Fiber Channel or the new 64-bit Adaptec cards coming next year ( don't tell me your video card is 128 bit - i'll scream! regards, Henrik PS: Sorry I couldn't hep my self! ;-) mmkc@ace-net.com.au wrote: > hello, > This is what my new system going to have: > #9 Revolution3D AGP video card > AVerMedia TV-Phone > Plextor 20x CD ROM > USR Courier 56.6 > AWE64 Gold > Quantun AtlasII SCSI 9.1GB > 64MB SDRAM > Adaptec 2940UW SCSI > > This computer going to be a home use only. $3,549 for a 500mhz is not so high since 300mhz PII's are almost that
high.See Enorex.com for prices of 433mhz models for about $2800.
And I have not seen a Pentium MB with 64-bit PCI slots but the Enorex
systems do have them.

But what good are those 64bit slots right now? Does anyone know if the NT 5 beta has 64 bit driver support?
