I just removed an HP C2247 (1 GB single-end SCSI) disk from a 9000/735 and moved it to a PC (replaced the C2247 with a Seagate ST32430N). We didn't have a manual for the C2247, but I was able to identify the SCSI ID jumpers and change them from 5 to 0. Now, however, I'm having intermittent problems with the disk when it is in the PC, SCSI timeout errors when installing Linux for example. The most recent problem is when I upgraded the BIOS on our PC SCSI host adapter, an IN-2000, which fails to see any SCSI devices with the new BIOS but works fine with the old one. The manufacturer of the IN-2000 tells me that this new BIOS pushes the adapter pretty hard and will fail if anything is marginal. I'm wondering what the other jumpers do, if changing them might help. In particular, I'm assuming the C2247 is unterminated since it was in the middle of the bus in the 735 and there is an empty socket (two rows of holes) on the back of the disk. This is OK, as the PC has a SCSI tape drive in it with termination. If this is wrong, or if there is anything else I can try, I'd like to know. -- Stephen Walton, California State University, Northridge "Be careful what you wish for; you might get it." swalton@csun.edu
