BTW, Auspex and some other file servers might be using SunOS kernels too. SunOS is fatally broken in its handling of locks over NFS using rpc.lockd and/or rpc.statd. Other OS like HP-UX and Solaris 2.x appear to work fine. Sun said they will NEVER fix this in SunOS 4.1.x. You can use the following options passed to CC: -Wr,-ptl -Wi,-ptl These options turn off locking of the ptrepository so beware of simulataneous updates causing corruption, etc. However, your hangs over NFS should go away.
