Help: Using a modem w/ HPUX

Hi,

I have a HP 715 running 9.05 and a PPI PM228MT II V.34 modem. I am using a
ppp client to dial the modem and establish my ppp connection with my local
Internet provider. I am able to download my mail with a pop mail client and
to surf the net using Netscape. I can also telnet into my computer at work
where I upload and download files. My problem is: When I upload files I get
transfer speeds as would be expected for a 28800 modem connected to another
28800 modem. But when I download files, my transfer rate is between 5-175
bytes, yes I mean bytes, per second. This slow rate is antagonizing. I can't
even download images with Netscape because they can take up to 15 minutes.
I used SAM to configure my serial port for dialing out only and have tried
varies initialization strings for the modem with no improvement. I hooked
the modem up to a PC and it downloaded at a high transfer rate, so I know
that the modem is OK.

I don't know what to try next, if anyone can help, please e-mail me at
stratton@btg.com. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
