IBM Storage Systems Division (SSD) is conducting a search to identify lead-
ing application solutions that will exploit the new Magstar MP Tape Subsys-
tem. Magstar MP is an exciting new automated tape system that combines
proven IBM Magstar technology with a compact design that allows up to 300
GB of storage. And unlike traditional tape technologies, Magstar MP offers
a unique fast data recall function that allows <20 second access to ar-
chived data. (All for less than $15,000, including an industry leading
3-year warranty!).
Combined with software applications, this function can provide unique value
add to customers, allowing them to:
o Utilize otherwise unused data storage
o Provide near on-line access to infrequently accessed data
o Increase the use of network attached storage management
o Expand the function of tape beyond save/restore
= ANY APPLICATION WHERE ACCESS TO LOW COST, TIME SENSITIVE
DATA IS IMPORTANT
SSD is currently searching for Software application solutions that will exploit
the fast access characteristics of the Magstar MP technology. We are look-
ing for help in identifying potential ISV applications that will work with
SSD to integrate their applications with MP.
If the application is determined to be a good fit for integration with
Magstar MP, SSD will enter into a joint development agreement with the ISV.
In exchange for this effort, SSD will give the ISV a Magstar MP 3570/B01
100 GB library subsystem to keep when they complete the work. Please let
us know if you have a candidate that might be interested in learning more.
Candidates will be evaluated based upon:
o Application fit
o Install base
o Revenue potential
If you have an interest, please contact Al Patterson at 520-799-2334
or George Mower at 520-799-4117 (mower@vnet.ibm.com) to further explore
this limited opportunity.
