Hey Bruce. i've gotta tell you, this is the funniest thing i've heard in quite a while. i've been doing this headhunting for about three years and i hear newbies say stupid stuff like this all the time and it cracks me up. one of the marketing girls in a company i used to work with actually came back with a job order for a senior p/a with 15 years experience on the as/400 (and this was 2 years ago!). i guess i can laugh at some of us in this industry, including myself sometimes, but there are also a lot of smart headhunters who do good work for folks and provide a great source of information and resources (especially for contractors). For example, a guy calls our office with the job in hand but needed a company to contract through because the end client would not accept 1099 or corp to corp arrangements. He would not have been able to do the contract without our "help". Another gentleman wanted to switch jobs but could not because of a non-compete clause in a contract that he had unwittingly signed. Our company hired him to do work for us thereby insulating him from possible legal ugliness. i read a lot of recruiters getting flak on this newsgroup, for posting jobs with low wages or unreasonable requirements for education, etc. the consensus (maybe it's the "aspiring" loudmouth minority) seems to be that recruiters are a bunch of imbeciles and that programmers wages would be double what they are if it weren't for the greedy agencies getting their huge fees. however, in our economy, if a service or industry is superfluous and truly does not provide value, then it does not succeed and is phased out. With all of these headhunting firms and consulting firms posting record profits and expanding from here to timbuktu, i'm thinking that some of them are doing something right. regards, rick machado comsys technical services emachado@comsysinc.com 407.670.7764 On Tue, 26 May 1998 23:41:35 -0500, "Bruce Anderson" <Bruce_Andersonb@email.msn.com> wrote: >I am a contractor, in the Dallas area, with 22 years with IBM midrange >systems(sys/32 - AS/400).
