Ya know, I don't ordinarily read these job post things, but saw RK's response which
caused me to look a little closer.

I'd seen the D.O.E. before and figured it meant Department of Education. But on
looking closer at this post, I see that profit sharing is listed as a benefit
(excellent, no less) so I figure I'm wrong here somewhere!!

Re-reading this before posting (see other recent posts from me) I also note that
'current' is a plus. Duh, what does that mean?

But enough ad-bashing. A question suggested by this ad is: How is it that someone
would come to think that $45K D.O.E. could possibly be attractive? Why waste the
energy and electrons to post such a job opening?

Further, the organization that has the opening (not the head-hunter) apparently has a
400 and needs some help with it. Well, I don't know of anyone who would be
interested, so where will the employer end up going for help? As I write this, it
occurs to me that D.O.E. is "depending on education." So if $45K won't get a
qualified candidate, what will $24K get? (if that is the low end of DOE)

Folks, I suspect that the low end of DOE will end up getting a high school kid that
will damn near never figure out Work Management, Spool Files, the purpose of
security, why 98% utilization is not ~bad~, etc. etc.

There almost has to be more to this than meets the eye. Is the employer low-balling
to see who's hungry enough to jump in? Is the profit sharing real (and
substantial)? Did the employer buy a system they can't afford? Would the job pay
better if the HH wasn't involved (and how much)? Considering the location, is the
employer taking advantage of the under-advantaged?

While I hate job postings in this group, I'm beginning to wonder they may convey
clues of where the AS/400 is going. Could it be that we need to educate HH's so that
they can become better at discriminating between contract opportunities and
legitimate long term permanent employment?
