I just bought a Sound Blaster platinum and installed it today. Got it from Buycomp for $162 My last two sound cards have been Aureal (Diamond MX300 with Aureal 2 and Turtle Beach Montego with Aureal 1). My main reasons for buying these cards was for 3d positional sound. I've been very unhappy with Diamond for not updating the MX300 drivers, in fact they are still beta on the web site. Last time I buy anything from them. One of the things I really liked about the Platinum is Live Drive which fits in a %1/4 drive bay and give you connectors and volume control for almost everything inculding headsets. There is also a ton of gane software and freebie MP3 apps as well as a cheap microphone. There is alot of stuff here for the money. Anyway I almost always use a headset to play games, usually Half-life or mods of hal-life and Unreal Tournament. One thing I liked aobut the SB is that there is absolutley no cpu utilization. So my impressions of the SB in games is very good. if there is a loss of 3d positional information I can't hear it. Also the sound is better in that is sounds clearer and crisper. I'm very happy so far. -Terry

I don't bother to update from Diamond Website, I used Aureal's reference driver. -- MaeStro "If A equals success, then the formula is: A=X+Y+Z. X is work. Y is play. When I turn off 3D it does run, but that's not why I bought the Mx300. This is the only game where that happens. Anybody else experienced this, or knows a way to fix it? (I do have the patch for X-Wing Alliance) With the diamond drivers I have no problems whatsoever in X-Wing Alliance. Marc
