Wanted: handheld data entry device, download data to PC

I have a friend who, not having a notebook computer, needs some sort of
handheld portable data entry device. The idea is to carry it around and
enter inventory, text and numeric values. Later he would take the unit
back to the desk-top pc and download data through an infra-red link or
through the serial port.

It would also be great if the device could accept data both by manual keypad
entry and by bar-code input.

I think there may be such thing already on the market. Please email to
me if you know of any.

Thanks,
Dean

There are loads of these things on the market; dang but I cannot remember a
single name. The Yellow Pages can probably help, under "Bar Coding",
"Industrial Controls", "Computer...", etc.

You may have to dispense with the bar coding (or do they have an attachment?),
but something like the Casio BOSS or Sharp Wizard can be used for the rest of
it. They have a PC interface.
