Q about combo floppy drive and IDE HD compatability

I have a couple of questions for the wisdom of the net.

First, does anyone have any experience with the combination floppy drives which
are now availble? Do they require a different controller or will the basic
floppy controller suffice? How does the Canon combo drive compare with the Teac
combo drive?

Second, does anyone have any experience with compatability between IDE
hard drives from different manufactures? Specifically, I will be adding a new
hard drive to my system. It currently has a Miniscribe 80 MB hard drive. I do
know that there are a some combinations of manufactures which do have problems.
I am leaning toward getting a Maxtor 213 MB drive.

Thanks for the information,
Mark
