maybe micro$oft could learn alittle bit about competition.... even though recently 3dfx has taken the clear lead with their voodoo1/2 chipsets you would think that other companies may be hesitant to develop and try to compete with them. it appears that videologic/NEC will actually try.... according to tom's hardware....the new powerVR chip coming out may actually be as fast/faster then the voodoo2....at a substantially lower price than the voodoo2. originally tom was hesitant about the news release concerning the new powerVR chip....but apparently he has seen a preliminary version of the chip in action at CeBIT and says that the chip running Quake2 is "very fast".... it appears that some of the big guns out there are following up on this and that tom reports that both diamond and creative labs are going to develop video cards based on the new VR chip (apparently as a low cost alternative to the voodoo2...especially when the voodoo2 sales eventually start to decline). could this new chipset be better? guess we can only wait to see. i know all of you out there would like a possibility for a faster cheaper solution to your 3D experience :) guess now 3dfx better get cracking on their voodoo3! (hopefully alot cheaper also) -pHred (look for a new article on the powerVR next week on toms hardware page www.tomshardware.com/index.html )

Hope these big guns out there write a PowerVR to GLIDE port, or something like that... a proprietary standard (i.e. GLIDE) strikes again :-(
