Harpoon 3 PC now available for direct download!

As of today, the finest air/naval strategy wargame _bar none_ is
available as a direct download, in addition to the CD version.

You can download it from the NWS site (www.navalwarfare.net).

The download version is exactly the same as the CD version, and will
function for a limited time without requiring the registration key.
During this "trial" period, you can run the program _without any
restrictions at all_! You can try all the scenarios, all the
databases, everything that has made Harpoon 3 withstand the test of
time and become the No.1, the King of the Hill, the "accept no
substitutes!" undisputed champion in air/naval wargaming.

Combined with the already existing demo available at www.harpoon3.com
(which allows you to play a series of "tutorial" scenarios without any
time limit), there is now simply no excuse for not trying it out. And
with s&h costs & delay eliminated, it is now in your hands as fast as
your modem can gulp it, and at a killer price.

Armchair admirals and air force commanders! Let's see what you're
really made of.

Give it a go and see for yourself why the best is the best...

Install ok, run the game, exits and creates .ini file, thats as it should
be, says the readme file. Then run the game again, but it then tells me
"This temporary version has expired etc", what should I do?

This is a clarification by the developer, Jesse Spears:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been asked to clarify some stuff about the recently added
download option.

There's nothing really new going on here, other than
you can download the regular installer first, then pay for it later.

The things included in the installer that might be confusing:

The "Harpoon3 Temporary.exe" application is a limited
version of the game. It only allows you to play with the "Tutorial"
and
"Global Conflicts 1" scenarios, and doesn't let you save them (think
of it as a "super demo"). It's been shipping with the game for a long
time now (6-7
months?). There is a time limit on this application, but it's long
(the current
one will expire October 26th, for instance).

The Full version of the game that ships with the installer is the SAME
as the
full version you can download from the web site. If you run it without
the
proper registration, it will attempt to contact the Temporary
Registration
Server. If it can't, it tells you so and quits. If it can, you can
play for
up to 10 days before it stops working. The time limit is based on the
machine
you're running on, but it's verified by the Server (so, changing your
clock
won't let you keep playing, and neither will downloading a new
version).

This is the same thing that's been in place for, what, 2 months now?
Nothing
new. It's just a way for me to be able to take off on vacation for a
while and
let people play the game they just purchased.

Now, if someone downloads the Installer and starts playing without
paying,
nothing will prevent that (at least not for the first 10 days). So, in
effect
this is a feature complete demo with a time limit, but requires an
internet
connection to play.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, from this clarification, and from the description you gave, I
assume that for some reason your PC cannot contact the Temporary
Registration Server (so that you can try the full-feature version for
10 days). Either you were not connected to the web, or your firewall
(either one you have set-up yourself, or Windows-XP's internal
firewall) has blocked the connection.

So you should connect to the web, shut down your firewall
and try again. If that won't work, you'll have to try the
limited-Demo version instead.

Let us know of the results.

Cheers
Sunburn

p.s. if you have Zone Alarm as your firewall, when you run Harpoon 3,
it will pop-up to tell you that H3 is trying to connect to an external
source. Enable it, and it should work fine.

So, does anyone know what ports i should open to allow H3 to access the web
thru WinXP's firewall?

I've got the same problem.

Bought the download today. Ran the PC Installer. Sent off my LOK file.
Thought I'd try out the temporary version. Won't run as it's expired.

No Firewall, Broadband connection to the internet.

This is just-in from NWS:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi everyone,

Ok.. what happened was our person who does the online store linked
an older version of the H3 Installer on accident. We have updated
the installer so the problem of the limited version being expired
should be taken care of now.

Thanks for your patience and the reports.

Therefore Dan, I was probably wrong in my guess before. The problem
was apparently with the packaged installer, not with your firewall or
connection.
Get the fixed version and try again.
