  I wouldn't use the 1502 for anything faster than 8X CD-ROMs. I tried running a
Plextor 12Plex off of one (a ZIP ZOOM, actually) and couldn't get the full
speed. It's only a basic, 16-bit, PIO-mode controller. Trying to run both a CD
and CD-R simultaneously would generate a large number of drink coasters.

  Look for a busmastering controller, such as the Adaptec 2940 series (not the
2920) or similar other brands.
