SONY CD-ROM CDU-76S problem

I have a SONY CD-ROM CDU-76S. After about six months of use
it started giving trouble. While using it, it would suddenly stop
loading. The busy indicator light would be on and the drive would
continue to try to read the disk. A requester on screen would say
'no disk present in device CD0'. Sometimes the drive would be
able to read the disk again for a short while before the problem
started again. More often the drive would continue to try to read
the disk without success and without stop. I would be unable to
eject the disk. All I could do was turn the power to the CD drive
off for a while. When the power was back on things worked alright
for varying leath of time.
I took the drive to the local SONY company who checked it
out, said the laser was faulty and replaced it. Two months later
the problem started again. Back to SONY, the laser was defective
and was replaced free of charge.
Three days later the problem is back. Some times I can use
the drive for a long period without trouble, other times only a
short while.
Before I take the drive back to SONY again, I was hoping
someone could shine a light on this annoying problem. If anyone
has had similar problems or has any information I'd be glad to
hear about it.
The computer recognises the drive but the drive can't read the disk.

Thanks.
