CD Problems HELP !!

Hopefully someone can help me here ....

I recently bought a 2nd hand Creative Encore kit (Dxr2) containing the
2240E DVD drive. Plugged it into my system and it locked up before
reaching windows. No issues with the Dxr2 card. The other CD drive in my
system is a BCE621E CD-RW.

I tried disconnecting the CDRW no joy, tried switching IDE channels no
joy. Tried a reload of windows 98se with no joy. Tried uninstalling all
CD devices whilst in safe mode then reboot, no joy. Finally tried the
DVD in my sons system and it worked no problem.

I then tried to install my sons CD drive (x6 Teac) in to my own system
and run into the same problem. This drive was actually fitted to my own
before I went for the CD-RW a few months back.

So the issue appears to be related to the fact that I can run with the
CDRW but not any other std IDE CD drive and something happened when I
switched to the CD-RW ????

Help !!!!

Rgds,
-Murray

What M/B are you using ??

I recently had the same problem with my 5x 5241E drive

I upgraded my Motherboard to a ABIT BE6 V2 and for some strange reason the
DVD drive stopped any Plug play devices from working PCI and USB giving my
the age old blue screen ?? strange, to solve this i moved the DVD onto the
ATA66 controller on the M/B witch sorted everything out :)

Anyone else had this ???

Sounds like a problem with Abit boards, try taking all you cards out and any
plug n play devices apart from your vga and reinstall windows if everything
is fine try puttin a pci device in, like your Dxr2 if it crashes then you
have the some problem as me ,we should contact creative and Abit...

With a spare SCSI disk I did a backup and then loaded win2K prof, this
recognised the DVD no problem. However win2K doesn't support a few of my key
applications so i went back to the drive with Win98se.

I'll give your suggestion a try, thanks.
