Does anyone know anything about the Panasonic PD1 CD ROM Writer? I have
been told it's a 2x write and 8x read unit.

It's specced as a 4X read.  The write specs appear to be around 6X,
actually, when it's in PD mode.  Can't verify it one way or another,
as it's variable. The PD mode specs are noticeably quick:

Seek:   165ms
Data rate:  518-1141 K/sec

As opposed to CD-ROM 4X mode:

Seek:  195ms
Data rate:  600K/sec

Someone led me to believe that there is a Panasonic PD1 CD-ROM WRITER
                                                        ^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I aleady have the Panasonic PD System (4x CD Read/650 MO read/write).
