Recently I bought an NEC Multispin 6xi SCSI-2 CDROM drive and I am having a problem when I use with some games, most notably Phantasmagoria and Buried In Time (The Journeyman Project). It works perfectly well with other games. The problem is that often when playing a game, the video on the screen will stop but the audio will continue. The video will then catch up and it starts all over again. One thing I've noticed is that the CD-ROM drive drops from six speed down to single speed when this happens (I can tell from the LCD display) and then goes back to six speed. The same thing happens in Windows and DOS. I wrote to NEC but they were no help. What could be causing this? I have a Pentium 66Mhz with a NCR 53C810 PCI SCSI card (on IRQ 10) with the following devices attached: - NEC Multispin 6xi CD-ROM drive (SCSI ID 1) - Quantum ProDrive LPS540S hard disk (SCSI ID 2) - Syquest SQ3270S (SCSI ID 3) The SCSI chain is the following: PCI card (terminated) -> HD -> CD-ROM -> Syquest (terminated). I have a Diamond Stealth 64 VRAM PCI video card and a SoundBlaster AWE32 sound card (IRQ 5, DMA 1 and 3, port 220). If anyone out there knows what could be causing this problem, it would be much appreciated if they could email me. Thanks in advance. Mark Sztainbok (mjs@cs.monash.edu.au)

I don't have your hardware, but I just wanted to tell you that I see this exact symptom in MK3 sometimes, near the end of the game while fighting Shao Kahn (this is the most active foe in MK3, so it probably taxes the CD-ROM the most). I have a Panasonic/Matsushita 562 2x CD-ROM hanging off a Media Vision Pro Sonic 16 sound card. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a Windoze 95 problem, either.
