Worst piece of computer hardware I have ever owned...and I have owned a lot!

Never got a problem with it. A friend of mine owns a XR-W2010 (x2 x4) and it's the same... No problem. No coaster. They are DAO TAO compatable, and they do DAE very well... Greetings, JR

The XR-W2010 is known to be defective (in design and implementation). Suggesting that the XR-W2042 is as good as the XR-W2010 is damning the product with faint praise. -- Best regards, John mailto:JNavas@NavasGrp.Dublin.CA.US http://www.aimnet.com/~jnavas/

So I guess it's much better. I can just tell you that my XR-W2042 works perfectly. I already burned a lot of CDs with it, and never got a coaster, whatever can be the CDr type/brand or the software... What should I expect more ? When I see those postings relating problems concerning the Yamaha/Ricoh/HP or others CD writers, I realize I'm very happy with my JVC... Greetings, JR

There's a lot more to a CD-R drive than whether you get obvious coasters or not. The XR-W2010 had a nasty habit of transferring corrupted data (without error) back to the host. It was fairly rare, so it was very hard to notice. While it had obvious implications for using the drive as a reader, it also raised questions about its reliability in DAE and multi-session recording. Given the failure of JVC Information Systems to correct the problem after it had been pointed out, I would never trust any JVC Information Systems product. >What should I expect more ? When I see those postings relating problems >concerning the Yamaha/Ricoh/HP or others CD writers, I realize I'm very happy >with my JVC... There are reported problems with *any* product, no matter how perfect, and products with high market share tend to have more reports than products with low market share, even if they are superior, so you have to be *very* careful in assessing reports posted here. The Yamaha and Ricoh drives are superb products. Likewise the Matsushita/Panasonic CW-7502. And Teac is also very good. I would rank all of them way ahead of any JVC drive. YMMV. -- Best regards, John mailto:JNavas@NavasGrp.Dublin.CA.US http://www.aimnet.com/~jnavas/

Well, I guess you're right, since you seem to know those problems much better than I. I just hope now that my XR-W2042 works better than the XR-W2010 (I suppose that JVC has corrected those problems on their latest CD writers...). Until now it seems to work fine, and it doesn't seem to transfer corrupted datas. Softwares like Gear use to make comparisons after they have burnt a CD, and I think I would notice that kind of errors. Anyway I consider a CD with errors as a coaster too, even if it's readable...
