:>>Unfortunatetly this whole disussion may be irrelevant as TI just :>>introduced a new technology. The 0.18 Micron process. It packs an :>>incredible 125 million transistors on one chip, making it possible to :>>put several boards, video, audio, hard drive, ram, etc. on to a single :>>chip. I will post the newsfeed following. :>> :> :>Well, it's not SO exciting since AFAIK PPro uses 0.25 (or will be :>using in the near future) So that TI tech. is ~30% "better". :>Or did I understand it in a wrong way? :>BYE. :>Yours, :>LodeRunner (Dmitry Veremeev). E-mail: minister@rinet.ru The PPro uses .35u technology. Intel plans to move to .25 in 1997. .25u and 18u technology are not entirely new. IBM has had .25u for a year or so, apparently making some kind of special RAM with it. TI AFAIK is not using its 25u tech to make CPUs, but for high speed digital signal processors for the telecommunications industries. You can get details about both companies processes and the way they are using them at their respective web sites (at IBM go to their microelectronics division pages). Cheers, Dan Davis sunny@mem.net
