If you're going to wait, I would plan on waiting for a year or
two, then. The PC arena is about to undergo a revolution, and
it will take a while to settle down. Remember back when folks
*finally* realized that the ISA bus really wasn't fast enough?
Well, the market has *finally* settled out over that one, and
system design points have only in the past 6-9 months settled
down a bit. MMX/AGP/SDRAM, etc, will all destabilize the design
point that we're at today. Over the next year there will be a
lot of experiments at shipping these features to market, and
probably most of them will die out.
If you want a new motherboard, buy it today. If you want more
features, buy it when the features are available. But just
realize that we probably won't reach another 'mature' market
point, like we have today, for at least a year, maybe two.
Today's motherboard is nearly obsolete, no doubt. But for the
next year or two, any 'new' motherboard may well become
'obsoleter' because it may well be far from where the market
settles out.
