HI Martin and ALL!

From my own experience with these messing DEFAULT password and UNKNOWN
password in BIOS, I've found that the EASIEST way to reset the BIOS
password is ... Tada....

Wait a sec. Let me clearify this first. This is not intended to break
anyone's machine nor to hack others' machines. :) I am doing my
maintenance work on about 200 PCs including the 386 and 486 with both
AMI and AWARD BIOS. Taking out the PC's cover turned out to be a very
hard job for that whole 200 PCs. So, I use ....

NORTON RESCUE or whatever utility that can SAVE and RESTORE BIOS/CMOS
informations. Save it from ANY machines and overwrite to the system with
unknown password. This will create a CMOS Checksum errors and in it will
automaGically erase all contents in the CMOS, including the password!....

But this method will NOT work if the system is protected with Password
Checking = ALWAYS set to ON. Which means that you cannot access the
system at all. Then, I will do the hard-reset on it...

BTW, I've done this many times and if anyone out there, I have to say
this because living in Thailand makes me feel it!, know if there is any
harm resulting from overwriting the CMOS with other's informations will
do.... Please kindly comment this techniques and post here or through
E-Mail. I'll sure summarize if I find it useful.

Best regards,

: It's used if (and only if) you forget your own defined BIOS password.
: If you disconnect the motherboard battery, your CMOS settings will
: discharge and the password is replaced by a hard-coded default which
: you then change again for your own password.

: What happens if you don't know the default password? I don't know.
: Maybe AMI could tell you what it is.
