I know it well - I've got one in this HX machine alongside its bigger
brother, the ST52520A. Until a couple of weeks ago I was working for a
well-known PC supplier, building and setting up their machines. I can
assure you that the ST52520A exhibited just the same symptoms as other
non-TX-compatible Seagate drives when we attempted to set one up on a
DFI TX motherboard. By this time the ST52520A was becoming few and far
between in any case and the ST32531A was definitley a no-no, so we had
to settle for using alternative makes until Seagate had sorted
themselves out.
Maybe the ST51080A isn't affected, or more likely you were just plain
lucky with a combination of individual drive, motherboard and PSU where
the tolerances were favourable - it's certainly a very knife-edge thing.
