    Don't recall your OS, but I often boot from floppies for various
 reasons, and I've found that the memory maps are different.  You
 could perhaps be having a memory problem.  Suggest you get out
 into DOS in all possible ways on each system and compare
 "mem /c/p" output.

    (There are certainly drivers in existence which won't run if
 loaded high.)
