Disabling Call Waiting on INCOMING calls

Greetings,

I'm using Remote Access Service on a Windows NT server to allow me to
dial in from home. My home PC is running Windows 95 and I have a new
Sportster 28.8/33.6 in each machine.
I've updated the modem.inf files and everthing is working like a
charm.

BUT, I have one problem. I would like to use the dial-back
capability in the Windows NT server so that I can have my office pick
up the cost of the call. My problem is that I have CALL WAITING at
home and I can count on being beeped just when I'm doing something
crucial.

Is there an answer string that will disable call waiting? Call
waiting can be disabled on my system by using *70, which works fine
on out going sessions.

I've tried several combinations using flash hook (!) to try to switch
over on answer, dial the *70, then switch back but no success.

Thanks for any help.

i dont know the answer to your question (it might be at!wa?) but all i can say
is that with my courier over here even if i dont disable call waiting when
the modem is in use (my system used to be at thier apartment for 2 months heh)
the modem wont necessarily drop the connection when it hears the beep. that
might hold true for the sportsters too. v.34 just seem to be more robust
in the hang up for call waiting, etc. the only time when the courier was over
there that it ever hung up on call waiting was when i was using v.32bis 14.4

How do you make modem disconnect with CALL WAITING? I have CALL WAITING
service but I cannot make my modem disconnect when a second call comes
in. Is it possible if you could email me your modem configuration? I
have USR 28.8 Vi modem.

Thanks in advance.

Victor.

Hi, I am actually looking for exactly the same. Is there any setting possible
to get a modem to disconnect upon call waiting? I have a ACUBIT fax/modem,
and the thing simply refuses to disconnect me when a call comes in. Which
makes it worse for me, because now people simply think I am not home at all
when I am online (not always a bad thing, but still...)

Please email responses!!! (I am not subscribed to this group normally, and
this is an important issue for me because it is needed for my work also).

Victor,
Mine loses the host when I get beeped and I'm using the default string. I guess you could try
reducing the S10 register to make it more sensitive to line hits?

Thanks for the responses,
