Stange UART problem with Hayes

I ran this program called PortInfo and at first it said that the 16550 UART
was actually an emulation chip, E16550. But I thought that the Accura had a
real 16550 UART in it. But if I ran the program again, it couldn't detect the
COM port I installed my modem (COM2) on because of a port conflict and the
UART becomes a 16550A. If I cold booted my computer, the same thing happens
again, detects COM port and then it can't. This happens with both my 2400 and
28800bps modem. I also removed the modem and put in a high speed serial card
with a 16550 UART and PortInfo could detect COM2 more than twice. But I know
if I try to put in both my serial card and Accura 288B, PortInfo will not
detect the modem. Any answers to this problem?

I'm not clear from your description, but it sounds like you may be
installing both a com port and a modem at the same com port (address).
An internal modem includes the "com port", so make sure that you don't
install the modem at an existing com port address.

Try running PortInfo with the modem OUT of the computer to make sure
that the com port address is not being used by another com port.

I hope this helps...
