Unfortunately it's a bit more complicated than that in my case.
It turned out that in the upper one of the two SIMM slots two of the pins
are broken. The SIMMs themselbes seem OK and work fine in another PS/2
Model 80 (can they be used in any other computer? IBM PS/2 Models 50, 55
and 70 do not seem to use them...).
So unless I get involved into delicate soldering stuff, I think I have to
throw away that machine. I already swapped its ethernet card into an old
Model 50 (286) standing around, so that one at least can be used as a
terminal by some student, using the Model 80's monitor, mouse and
keyboard.

BTW, the Model 80 contained a monster of hard disk. It does not fit into
any other PS/2 machine, as it looks (they're desktop ones). However, I
should be able to use it as a second hard disk in another PS/2 Model 80.
The electrical connectors are all there, but how do I physically fit in
two of those mosters? Actually, the space should be sufficient, and there
seem to be facillities for a second such drive, but since I have to slide
them in from the middle I cannot figure out how I can slide in a second
one once the first is in position.
