If you're talking about Ocean's Octek DCA/2 (ie. the subject), it
doesn't take L2 cache RAM at all. There aren't any sockets for L2 cache
and the board doesn't come with cache.
That is the purpose of EDRAM, it eliminates the need for external L2
(20-25ns SRAM). The DynamiCache is the "cache". The rest of the info
('bout 2 EDRAM slots, and 2 DRAM slots) is correct though. One thing
about the speed of DCA/2, I have heard (but haven't tried it myself)
that if you mix DynamiCache and normal DRAM, the system slows down
considerably (but not to the extent of a normal motherboard with 256K L2
cache and same amount of RAM). Even the manual tells you that. So I
guess DCA/2 is only ideal if you have an "all DynamiCache" RAM installed.
To confirm 'bout what you said about its speed, yes it's very
fast...especially if you have 32 bit operating systems running (I've got
OS/2).
