Next time, watch the quotes and replies -- you cussed out the wrong person. The person you replied to was questioning why Kara's post was so hostile. Her post was the one that got you all worked up. On Wed, 26 Aug 1998 08:49:42 -0600, "Hough/Babe'" <scbabe@codenet.net> wrote: >Maybe they're rude because you're a big dickhead asshole. Yep, that's us -- the fucking lazy people who actually expect customer service from customer service people. Yeah, we're bastards. We should have to work hard to earn the privilege of buying things at Best Buy. I guess we're not worthy of giving them our money. >Try checking the damn web site if you can't get away from you're damn >computer for 15 minutes. Yes I work there, not in computer sales though. Oh, you're probably too cheap which is why you call goddamn Best >Buy trying to get free tech support. Give me a break you arrogant prick. 1) A customer is a customer is a customer. Why should the fact that they're on the phone or lazy make a difference? Best Buy has no business limiting its customer service to people who aren't lazy. If the salespeople can't handle answering the phone, maybe they should find jobs they can do competently. 2) They may not be "computer techs", but as salespeople they should have a clue about what they're selling. But I could even live with their ignorance if they would just admit it and try to find an answer elsewhere. What's annoying is the fact that so many of the salespeople will make ignorant comments as if they were pronouncing the gospel from on high. There's nothing worse than someone who pretends to know what they're talking about when they don't. 3) There's a difference between trying to get free tech support and expecting to get accurate pre-sale information about products. Yes, undoubtedly cheapskates do try to get free tech support out of BB, but the proper way to deal with this is to revise the pricing structure to cover the increased costs, or to refer people to the correct number. However, providing technical information about the computer products being sold is within what a customer should reasonably expect of a salesperson in a computer department. 4) I could point out the foolishness of denouncing someone else's arrogance in a post that condemns as lazy people who are unwilling to visit the store everytime they have a product or pricing question. However, from the uncontrolled anger in your post, you're probably too busy frothing at the mouth in holy indignation to appreciate the humor, or to consider the possibility that there could be reasons other than laziness for a customer to call with a question. You could've taken the opportunity provided by Kara's post to demonstrate that her blanket generalizations of BB employees were erroneous and unjustified, but instead you had to have your little temper tantrum, and in so doing, you've just confirmed all the stereotypes about lazy, rude, arrogant employees in a "customer service" business who seem to suffer from the illusion that they are better than their customers. Yes, customers can be turds, but if you respond with the kind of attitude you've demonstrated (and thus behave no better than the worst of the customers that you denounce), you'll eventually make those same turds leave you unemployed, and who will be the more pathetic one in that scenario?
