I have GOT to tell you folks about my experience at Fry's Electronics in
Burbank, Ca today. They had a Diamond Supra modem at a very good price.
However, the side of the box stated Windows 95. Since I use Windows 3.11,
I asked the saleman standing right there if it was ONLY for Windows 95. In
a quite superior attitude he told me certainly not; it's downward
compatible. In fact, he sent me to another salesperson who repeated it.
Just to be sure, I asked if the box contained drivers for Windows 3.11.
"Absolutely," was the answer. 

I guess you know what's coming. When I got it home, my computer wouldn't
read the install program because it was only for Windows 95. I phoned long
distance (not an 800 number) to the company to have that confirmed. 

So what was accomplished here? I had to drive about 25 miles round trip
twice. Stand in line to pay for it. Stand in line later to have the return
receipt written up and stand in line again to get a refund. 

No, I don't expect the salespeople to know EVERYTHING. But I would rather
they didn't make such assured guesses though.
