Boycott Comp-LAN-America

a.k.a. Business Express
2225 Barham Dr
Escondido CA 92029
(619)746-4600

DO NOT do business with this company owned by Ron LaLanne.

They do not use fair business pracitces and deliberately mislead you of
their return policies.

I had the misfortune of doing business with them and was treated badly,
so I am here to do what damage I can. The BBB have done what they can,
and Small Claims is too much trouble.

I hope that this can serve a warning to anyone looking to do business
with Comp-LAN-America and that I am not judged too harsh for posting to
such a long list of groups.

What Happened:

While visiting their booth at a local computer fair (Orange County Fair
Grounds), 16 Mb of RAM was purchased on Nov18, 1995 with verbal assurance
of a full refund if I was not statisfied. Within days I discovered that
the RAM was faulty or incompatable with the new motherboard purchased at
the same fair (from Citicom of Garden Grove Ph(714)537-3399: Who I highly
recommend)

I contacted Comp-LAN-America for instructions on how to handle the
return. I was told to mail it back and I would recieve a full refund. I
did so, and it was received by them on Nov 24, 1995. Nearly two months of
calls to remind them of my situation finally resulted in a check on Jan
18, 1996 for the amount of purchace less a 15% restocking fee.

While restocking fees are not uncommon, nor are they unreasonable... I
would not have done buisness with Comp-LAN-America in the first place had
they not lied to me at the time of purchase by assuring me of a FULL
refund if I was not satisfied.

As I understand my situation according to the Better Business Bureau, a
business is not obligated to inform me of their refund policy. And even
though I did ask and was lied to *twice*, it is my word agianst his.
This, coupled with the small amount of money involved, leads me to
conclude that Small Claims would be more trouble than it is worth...
however, posing this on the net is no trouble at all :)
