Anyone considering doing business with Electrified
Discounters of Hamden Ct. should take heed: my experience
with this company has been extraordinarily negative, even
          for the PC industry.

They advertised in Computer Shopper a 16" Goldstar SVGA
monitor, for $399.00. The ad copy stated "renewed by
Goldstar" and "two year warranty". The $399.00 price was in
40 point type. Elsewhere on the page, in 8 point type was
          "ccc=$409.23".

When I called, I made absolutely sure there would be no
misunderstandings. I requested the $399 price, and the lady
taking the order said "OK". I pressed further, to make sure.
She confirmed the order at $399.00, and promised to ship the
          monitor the next day.

The monitor arrived three days later, in a well-used
carton, torn on two sides, with insufficient packing. The
outer bezel was cracked in two places. It didn't work. As a
matter of fact the indicator light didn't even go on. On the
bottom, the word "scrap" was written across the case.

They shipped it without an invoice. They claimed that
it would have taken an extra day to print an invoice. Had
there been an invoice, I would have caught the overcharges
immediately. I had to call my bank to discover they had
charged me $409.23, not $399.00 as we had agreed. In
addition, they more than doubled the shipping charges. They
charged me $18.00 to ship from Hamden Ct. to Somerset N.J.
UPS charged me $7.93 to ship the same monitor back to them.

Their ad stated a "two year warranty". The packing list said
"22 month warranty". The owners manual said "Warranty void
on rebuilt units, all repairs are the responsibility of the
owner". When I asked for warranty documentation, they said
that a "third party" would mail warranty docs to my house in
the next two weeks. When I asked for an adress or phone
number for this mysterious warranty company, they put me on
hold for 15 minutes, then hung up on me.

When I last called them, and threatened legal action,
as well as after I stopped payment on my credit card (BTW
Citibank's customer services were excellent in getting me my
money back). They reluctantly agreed to credit my account.
It took them 1 day to charge my card. They now say that it
will take 6-8 WEEKS to process a credit.

So, if you really want to get screwed, go ahead and
deal with these jerks. But if you end up being the one
overcharged, with a hunk of junk product, and no warranty,
and no recourse, don't say I didn't warn you.
