hi,
i had the same problem on a _very_ new soundcard and found a reason and a
solution (on my machine).
Reason:  all types of mikes are equal - but some are more equal!
make a 'flying' connection from the mike-join to a second join that is plugged
to the soundcard.
try all possible connections especially change the stero-signals (NOT THE
GROUND) or try only one of the channels.

Seems to me that the standards of mikes changed during the last years. I had
three mikes - no one works well. but with the information i'v got with the
tests by 'flying wires and clamps' a was able to buy a new one that matches!
Now all runs well!
