After adding 2 *new* 16M EDO simms of ram to my existing pair of 16M EDO simms (purchased about 5 months ago), I find that while Windows 95 recognizes the additional sticks, I now get frequent blue screen errors & system crashes. If I remove the older pair of simms, leaving in the newer (or vice versa), everything seems to run stable so I doubt that the RAM I just bought is bad. Is this problem common? Could the trouble be the mixing of an older lot of RAM with a newer? The older simms have 8 chips on one side while the newer ones have only 2, yet both sets are suppose to be standard 72-pin 16M EDO simms. I only paid $18.95 for each of the 2 new simms so is this a case of "you-get- what-you-pay-for" & hence a valuable lesson to be learnt about never purchasing generic RAM of different lots? I feel bummed-out about this since I really wanted to upgrade from 32-megs to 64-megs but it looks like that'll never come to pass. :-( Any thoughts or solutions? Btw, my computer is a Pentium 166MMX/Shuttle-HOT-based system running at 2.5 X 75Mhz (um, yes, I tried lowering the system bus to the "proper" 66MHz -- same problems). Thanks in advance for any feedback. Best, Joseph Smith (yes, my *real* name, but no, *not* the Mormon prophet) ;-)
