Followers of this newsgroup may recall a few weeks ago my plea
for help with a problem with swapped floppy drives. I'm pleased
to report that the problem has been solved - by installing a new
video card! The problem arose originally when I upgraded my
system from a 386DX40 with AMI BIOS to a 5x86 with AWARD BIOS;
after the upgrade I couldn't get the system to recognise my two
floppy drives (one 3.5" and one 5.25") the correct way round no
matter how I set up the CMOS etc.

I recently bought a new video card (a Diamond 3D2000 Pro) and
installed it, and lo and behold the floppy drives suddenly
appeared the correct way round! I can only surmise that the
BIOS on the old ISA-bus video card (a Compudyne 1024 based on
the ET4000 chipset) was in some way conflicting with the AWARD
BIOS and causing the problem. As William Shakespeare said,
all's well that ends well!

Many thanks to all who replied to my original posting with
suggestions and hints,
