Tony Ramsden writes: "I have an internal modem configured to Comm2 & a serial mouse on "Comm1 but I wish to connect another serial device. "I'm having to disconnect the "modem when I want to use the psion interface but what a bind this is! "Windows 95 The old PC standard was to have COMs 1,2,3,& 4 on different addresses, but with COMs 1&3; and 2&4, sharing an IRQ. As you say, this doesn't allow simulatenous use of COM 1 & 3; and 2 & 4. With sensible software you should be able to have, say, a modem in COM 2 and a Psion interface in COM 4 so long as you don't use them simultaneously. I'm not sure if there are any additional problems in Win95. However, most modern hardware and software supports other IRQs on COM ports. If, say, IRQ 5 is free, if your Psion interface and associated software allows it you could use it as the COM4 IRQ. This involves fiddling inside Win95, of course. HTH, -- Michael Salem
