I've been working on a VLB Octek Chipset based motherboard with a
486-25SX which has been run at 33MHz in the past. BIOS is MR
BIOS.
Problem 1) - If the system is left on for about 30 mins and then
switched off and back on, after the setup delay and
memory check, the system puts up a message saying it
is waiting for the hard disk to spin up and then
just times out. Poking around inside at the VLB
video card/HD controller (multifunction card (it
will come back to life.
Problem 2) - It looks like the system time clock is running
rather fast, the seconds look like they're passsing
twice as fast as they should.
At the moment I have 2 70ns 30 pin SIMMs in the system and 2
100ns 30 pin SIMMs. (I know the latter are slow, but they seem to
pass the POST. I have now put the system back to 25MHz.
Are the two problems above related? What do I have to change to
correct the system clock problem? ie what's the chip?
Alternatively, anyone got a 486VLB board they are throwing out?
