Re LLF on IDE.
Oh dear, this is very technical.
I had to LLF a bunch of second-hand drives last summer; Conners,
Seagates and others. The reason was to REDUCE their sizes because
they were going in old 286s (for a charity) which did not have a
user-specifiable drive-type. (I was fitting IDEs in place of MFMs,
using standard IDE HDC cards.) I never had any trouble except with
one 105Mb Seagate which was VERY slow afterwards.
I did it all by setting the drive-type in the BIOS setup, then
starting the prgram @ C800 (or whatever) + 5. The program was
certainly not null!
The computers ran very happily with the drives aftewards. before,
they would read the data, sometimes write, never boot, and came
completely unstuck with Norton Speedisk.
But I was NOT attempting to reclaim bad sectors! These carried
through from before to after. What's the problem with a few bad
sectors, if their number is not increasing?
