OK, I missed out a word, the external data bus is 32-bit (ie the one
to the peripherals).  Moving to the newer 64-bit PCI bus will not
solve the resistriction.

The memory bus is indeed the full 64-bit.  The internal architecture is 
a mixture of 32-bit & 64-bit.
