That example of yours doesnt have auto for either, so its irrelevant to what was being discussed, Richard's claim that the 'auto detect feature(s)' for the drive type in the bios can produce the symptoms that Ian saw. Like I say, no one has ever disputed that you can and do get different mapping between CHS and logical blocks when you change the various parameters in the drive entry in the bios. What was being discussed was whether that can change spontaneously in use with AUTO settings tho. It cant. > My comments on the NORMAL and LBA modes > applies to both Type AUTO and Type USER. And arent relevant to what was being discussed. > The reason I went to NORMAL mode, is that your previous statement: >> The bios AUTO setting doesnt use the partition >> table. You've gunna have to do a hell of a lot better than just proclaim that thats 'just so obviously wrong' specially with a drive that hasnt even been partitioned and formatted where that data aint even in the partition table coz there aint no partition table. Have fun explaining how the bios works that stuff out fine with the custom OS tpsa uses too. > An Award BIOS looks at the partition table in both NORMAL, LARGE, > LBA, and AUTO mode, when determining the translation to use. Easy to claim Svend, try doing more than just claiming it. > And it does this for both Type USER and Type AUTO. And clearly it doesnt even when there is more than just zeros too, otherwise tpsa wouldnt be seeing the result he is seeing.
