Hello everyone. I recently purchased an old 486 micronics motherboard with an SX-33 chip and a ZIF overdrive socket next to it. I also purchased an IBM brand DX4-100 CPU. The motherboard is 5 volts. The CPU is ( I believe ) 3.3 volts. There were no intructions with the CPU so maybe someone could confirm this. My problem is trying to install the CPU into the motherboard. I do not want to spend a great deal of money - so is there an easy solution ? I have not tried plugging the CPU in yet since I do not want to melt it. Apparently there is something called a voltage regulator that is inserted between the CPU and the overdrive socket. However I have asked around a number of electronic stores ( including Tandys and Dick Smiths ) and nobody can help me. Either I asked the wrong salesmen or the stores do not stock anything like this. I feel like I am getting the run around. Can anybody offer some advice ? Has anyone managed to perform this task ? Does anyone in Australia know where I can get a voltage regulator that will perform the task and how much the item is ? Or is there another solution ? THANKS IN ADVANCE. Regards.... ------------------------------------------- V A M P I R E hornej@citec.qld.gov.au ------------------------------------------- Please reply in email.

warnign though, as one who has bought a voltage converter in Oz, because of the physical arrangement of the converters heatsink, and the Micronics riser card, I had to "modify" the heat sink. In my case in entailed removal of the heatsink and replacing it with something I hope will last the test of time... If you want a 5v dx100 you need to get a dx100 overdrive chip. of course intel dont make them anymore... cheers, tim In article <3250d3e7.5071021@snews2.zippo.com>, Samauri@alias.cyberpass.net says... > >Vampire <hornej@citec.qld.gov.au> wrote: > >>:Hello everyone. >>: >>:I recently purchased an old 486 micronics motherboard with an SX-33 chip >>:and a ZIF overdrive socket next to it.
