An old 10 Mb/s one will do (I'm not flush with money!). I don't think 10 MB/sec cardbus ethernet cards exist (at least I've never ever heard of one). There is no point, as regular PCMCIA 10 Mb cards are dirt cheap and should perform nearly as well. > The PCMCIA industry got into somewhat of a mess - the usual syndrome > of competing commercial interests upsetting general interoperability. Actually no. You seem to have run into a specific interoperability problem with your laptop; maybe it is a problem with the Windows drivers for your CardBus bridge. CardBus sockets were designed to be 100% backwards compatible with the older 16-bit PCMCIA standard (i.e., all 16-bit cards should work in CardBus sockets). > Cards not designed for the cardbus PCMCIA port are iffy as to whether > they will work with computers with cardbus PCMCIA ports (is the opposite > true?). This is not generally true; normal 16-bit cards generally work fine in CardBus sockets. The reverse (using CardBus cards in a 16-bit socket) can never work; the cards will not actually fit in the slot. -- Dave
