Re disk speeds:

It's all very well you perfomance-hounds arguing about the last
few mm of performance. But for comparison, on my completely
untuned Cyrix P133+ system with a 1.2Gb Seagate EIDE (fogotten
which model) on PT5 PCI m/board, I noticed that when I was doing
a disk-check with Norton 8 Disk Doctor this afternoon, I was
getting a rock-steady 5 Mb/sec until the last tenth of the disk,
when it slowed down to about 3 Mb/sec (presumably due to geometry
on the inner tracks). Doesn't seem too bad to me. But then I
 don't play movies.

                                        Chris K.
