Well, I have been doing some adapter & drive testing (it wasn't my plan to do this testing, but I ended up doing it anyway). I found that the BusLogic doesn't look very impressive at all UNTIL you give it a high-performance drive to work with. With a low-performance drive, the NCR-based board I tried (Promise with 53c825) was faster under Linux on some things and about the same under win95. When I tried a Quantum 2GB Atlas (uh, 32150W), the buslogic pulled ahead, and by a large margin in some tests. I was quite stunned initially to install a wide/fast storage subsystem only to have benchmarks of all kinds tell me that my "junky" EIDE drive was faster! BTW, I think my testing has convinced me that a single-disk system can gain little from wide scsi. Just get a blazing scsi-2 drive and a quality controller. bcase
